Information for the local community about the Clare Classic on Saturday 4 – Sunday 5 April, 2020.

About the Clare Classic

The Clare Classic takes place in the beautiful Clare Valley wine region of South Australia on the weekend of 4-5 April, 2020 and incorporates two rides. The Dirty Clare gravel event is an 80km ride which takes riders off road through the beautiful Spring Gully National Park. This event will be held on Saturday, 4 April 2020.

The main Clare Classic event incorporates three routes, extending from Clare to Stanley Flat, Brinkworth, Sevenhill, Leasingham, Mintaro, Manoora and Auburn. This event will be held on Sunday, 5 April 2020.

The Dirty Clare gravel course on Saturday of the event weekend will start at Clare Town Oval from 7am. The village will be open until 2pm to welcome riders back through the finish line and also for Sunday riders to collect their registration kits.

For the Sunday Clare Classic road cycling event, riders will start at the Main North Road in Clare (opposite the Town Hall) from 7.30am. Riders will then finish at the Event Village (Clare Town Oval).  Please come along and cheer the riders as they cross the finish line during the day.

Village Open Times
Saturday, 4 April:
9am-2pm
Finish line for Dirty Clare riders along with cycling exhibitors, coffee, bar and music.

Sunday, 5 April
10am-4pm
The Event Village will be a lively hub with live music, gourmet food and wine stalls, children’s activities, cycling exhibitors and more.

Riders from all over Australia have registered for the event. Many will be staying in the Clare Valley over the weekend boosting tourism and bringing considerable economic benefits to the local region.

When is it?

The Clare Classic is on the weekend of 4-5 April, 2020.

The Dirty Clare 80km gravel ride will be held on Saturday, 4 April. This ride starts at Clare Town Oval from 7am, and finishes between 11am-12pm.

The Sunday Clare Classic includes three courses, the 160KM Maxi Classic, the 110KM Challenge Classic, and the 50KM Social Classic.

The first riders will return to Clare Town Oval at 10am. The last riders are expected to cross the finish line around 4.00pm.

Open: 6.30am to 7.30am
What: Registration and start line for Dirty Clare gravel course riders

Open: 10.00am to 2.00pm
What: Finish line for Dirty Clare gravel ride, registration kit collection for Sunday Clare Classic riders and event information. Bike mechanics will be available for basic repairs. A limited number of food and sponsor stalls will be open.

Sunday 5 April, 2020

Open: 10.00am to 4.00pm

What: The event village will be a lively centre of activity and entertainment as riders cross the finish line during the day. All welcome!

Event Village Parking

Limited parking will be available within Clare Town OvalEnter via Young Pl off Main North Road, Clare.

Marshalls will direct motorists to parking spaces.

There is also plenty of street parking available in the area.

Start & Finish Line

Time: Riders will depart between 7.00am to 7.30am and arrive back between 10.30am to 12.30pm.

160km Maxi, 110km Challenge & 50km Social Rides Start and Finish Line

Date: Sunday, 5 April 2020
Start Location: Outside Clare Town Hall, 229 Main North Road
Finish Location: Clare Town Oval
Time: Riders will go off in waves, heading north towards Stanley Flat.
* 160km Maxi riders: From 7.30am to 7.40am
* 110km Challenge riders: From 7.45am to 7.55am
*50km Social riders: From 8.00am to 8.05am

Riders will arrive through the finish line between 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Cheer on the riders as they come through the finish line with your free Clare Classic bell! Available from the Bicycling Australia tent at the Event Village.

Road Closures

The main street of Clare will be closed from 6.30am – 9.00am on Sunday, 5 April 2020.

If you are driving on any of the roads which are being used for the event, please ensure that you take care and be watchful for cyclists.

Police will be patrolling the course throughout the day to ensure cyclists and motorists observe all road rules.
