160KM MAXI CLASSIC: COURSE OVERVIEW

The 160km Maxi Classic will see riders start from the Main Street of Clare. The first few kilometres are flat, but as you exit Clare prepare yourself for some undulating terrain and typically some cross winds too.

As you pass Stanley Flat and head towards the Brinkworth Hydration Station expect some wide-open roads as you will be passing through the Clare Valley open plains.

The first obstacle of the day is a steep climb up Blyth Road. This is sure to sort out the bunch as you climb 300 vertical metres in just under 4km.

The course then loops back through Clare where riders will continue with the undulating terrain, which eventually does flatten out as you head towards the Mintaro Rest Stop. It is advised to stop and refuel as the half way mark has now passed and there is still some challenging terrain ahead.

From Mintaro you will head into the picturesque heart of the Clare Valley, take your time to absorb the surroundings you are in. From old barn yards vineyards to general stores that haven’t changed in over a 100yrs, at times it seems like you have ridden back in time.

After the 120km mark you will again hit the open countryside, heading towards the final Hydration Station at Manoora.

On the final stretch the roads are open and undulating until you again pass Mintaro and hit the final obstacle of the day- The Jolly Way KOM. This 3km climb starts off gradual until the last few hundred metres where it steepens, but keep in mind you are so close to finishing! Use that adrenalin as extra energy to make it to the finish line at Clare Oval where some ice-cold locally brewed beers and wines are waiting!
